Country duo Florida Georgia Line have been tapped to host the first ever American Country Countdown Awards. Cruise hitmakers Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard will helm the inaugural prizegiving based on Brooks & Dunn star Kix Brooks' long-running U.S. radio programme American Country Countdown.
The awards replace the now-defunct American Country Awards, which ran from 2010 to 2013. At last year's (13) final ceremony, Florida Georgia Line took home four trophies, including New Artist of the Year.
The American Country Countdown Awards will be aired live from Nashville, Tennessee's Music City Center on 15 December (14).
I might be bias because he’s my absolute favorite musician to ever exist, but Ed Sheeran got his first, and very well deserved, moonman from the MTV Video Music Awards on August 24. Winning the award for Best Male Video for his hit single "Sing", this was also his first American award. Ever. Well it’s about time!
This is going to be a huge PSA from me to you about how it’s practically necessary to be a big fan of this guy. This is no joke. If I had to pick only one musician to listen to for the rest of my life, with no hesitation, it would be Ed.
1. His lyrics are super cleaver.
2. It’s only him and a loop pedal on stage. Pure talent.
3. He was featured in People Magazines “Sexiest Man Alive” issue this year (It doesn't have to do with his music, but we all just have to acknowledge that high honor).
What’s wrong with him you may wonder? Nothing. Ed Sheeran is a perfect human.
4. Every song he sings is flawless.
5. Every song he sings live is even more flawless (my personal favorite is "Give Me Love" from his first album "+". Not only does it show off his insane vocals, but four minutes into the song, he builds a beat with just his guitar and voice. As mentioned before, he uses a loop pedal in order to do so).
Prepare to have your mind blown right now:
Impressed? I'm not done. The video doesn't even do it justice. See it sung live. Goosebumps everywhere...
6. He writes all his own music.
7. He writes other peoples music (only for some semi-famous musicians though like One Direction and Taylor Swift.. Maybe you've heard of them?).
8. Basically he's a music writing machine (all this and he's only 23...HOW!?).
Unlike other huge artists nowadays, Ed doesn't need anything extra to sound good or put on an entertaining show.
9. He doesn't need to sing along to a track.
10. He doesn't need backup dancers.
11. He doesn't need sparkly costumes.
12. He doesn't need to make it a huge production.
He literally stands in the same spot for his whole set, yet is able to make his shows the most amazing ones I've ever been to.
After being nominated frequently, and now finally winning, this offically makes Ed a part of the American music scene. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes home all future nominations from here on out (and if "X" doesn't win Album Of The Year, I will protest). Let's work for that Grammy next!
Luckily, Ed Sheeran continues his North American Multiply Tour on August 26 in San Jose, California. But he's here until mid-September, then he travels around the world through to February 2015.
There are no excuses not to see this tour. If you miss the closest show to you, just fly to another country to see him instead (that's what I'm doing!). This is Ed Sheeran we're talking about people! If you're not willing to make that sacrifice, you need to reconsider everything you just read. Hurry up and get your tickets now!
Have you seen Ed Sheeran live? What did you think of his show? Tweet us your thoughts!

Country star Jason Aldean has urged fans and critics to "move on" from the headline-grabbing cheating scandal which ruined his marriage, insisting he has no regrets about romancing fellow singer Brittany Kerr. The Big Green Tractor hitmaker tried and failed to save his union to high school sweetheart Jessica Ussery in 2012, after he was photographed kissing former American Idol contestant Kerr at a bar in Los Angeles.
He ended up filing for divorce to terminate their 12-year marriage in April, 2013, and subsequently rekindled his relationship with Kerr, making their red carpet debut as a couple at the CMT Music Awards in June (14).
In the early hours of Sunday (10Aug14), he shared his first photo of himself and his mistress-turned-girlfriend on his Instagram.com blog, alongside the caption, "A little surprise for my girl @brittanylkerr tonight. Her favorite pooch @manny_the_frenchie came to my show in Chi-Town (Chicago) tonite (sic). #loveubaby #surprise (sic)".
However, the snap prompted a slew of nasty comments from detractors and hours later, Aldean addressed the cheating controversy in a follow-up post, featuring the words, "You know my name, not my story. You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through."
Alongside that image, he wrote, "So sick of people judging me and @brittanylkerr over things they know nothing about. I have made mistakes but I am a better person because of it, and wouldn't change a thing.
"I'm happier than I have ever been, so thank u to all the people who support us. We are happy and life goes on. It's time to move on people. #aldeanarmy #oldnews #timetomoveon (sic)."
Actress Olivia Munn has taken her budding romance with American football star Aaron Rodgers public after the couple attended the New York premiere of her new movie Deliver Us From Evil.
The Newsroom beauty began dating Rodgers in May (14), weeks after her split from Robocop actor Joel Kinnaman, and they decided to make their relationship official by stepping out together at their first big event. The new couple was photographed arriving hand-in-hand, before Munn posed solo for the cameras on the red carpet.
Explaining why she ditched her new man on the red carpet, Munn told Eonline.com, "That seems a little strange to walk (together). The carpet's work, you know? I don't go on the field with him. "The afterparty we'll hang out and stuff, but the red carpet, it's work. It's interesting when you have some people walk the carpet. Some people do that, but for me... this is work."
Munn and Rodgers reportedly hit it off in April (14), when they were paired up to present a prize at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.
Country singer Jason Aldean made his red carpet debut with former mistress Brittany Kerr at the 2014 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (04Jun14).
The Big Green Tractor hitmaker proudly showed off his new girlfriend, a former American Idol contestant, with the pair holding hands and posing for photos at the Nashville, Tennessee prizegiving. The public appearance comes two years after they were embroiled in a 2012 kissing scandal, which led to the end of Aldean's marriage.
He hit headlines after he was photographed locking lips with Kerr at a bar in Los Angeles, and after attempting to repair his marriage to high school sweetheart Jessica Ussery, the singer eventually filed for divorce to end their 12-year union last year (Apr13). Aldean and Kerr officially began dating in March (14), according to Us Weekly.
Country star Miranda Lambert surprised pal Carrie Underwood over the weekend (24-25May14) by handing her the keys to a brand new motorcycle. Former American Idol winner Underwood took to her Twitter.com blog on Sunday (25May14) to share her delight at the unexpected gift and posted a photo of herself posing on the black and chrome bike.
In the accompanying caption, the star wrote, "Well, it's not every day @mirandalambert buys you a motorcycle!"
However, Underwood revealed she would need a little training before hitting the road with her new toy, adding, "Next stop, motorcycle driving lessons!!!"
Lambert has yet to reveal the reason for her generosity, although the bike was delivered a week after the pals shared the stage at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on 18 May (14) to perform the TV debut of their new song, Somethin' Bad.
Actress Olivia Munn is reportedly overcoming the pain of her split from fellow Hollywood star Joel Kinnaman by dating sportsman Aaron Rodgers. The Newsroom actress announced last month (Apr14) that she had split from the Robocop star after two years together.
Now she is attempting to forget her heartache by heading out on dates with American football ace Rodgers, according to Usmagazine.com.
Sources tell the publication Munn and Rodgers were seen dining out with friends at a restaurant in Malibu, California on Saturday (10May14), where they enjoyed several stolen kisses when they thought no one was looking.
The reported romance comes after they took to the stage together at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas last month (Apr14) to present an award.
Actor Sean Penn is set to receive the Champion of Jewish Justice Award at the Second Annual Champions of Jewish Values International Awards Gala in New York later this month (May14). The Milk star will be feted by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach on Sunday (18May14) for his efforts in helping to free Jewish-American entrepreneur Jacob Ostreicher, who was arrested and held as a suspect in a money laundering investigation in Bolivia in 2011.
Penn travelled to the country to appeal to President Evo Morales to free the prisoner, and he also managed to get Ostreicher to a safe location.
Boteach says, "Penn had no obligation to risk his life for Ostreicher. I'd like to think he was moved by the simplest of reasons - to save another human being in need."
Star Trek actor George Takei had high praise for the organisation which honoured him with a top award for his gay rights activism on Saturday (03May14), insisting officials have given young homosexuals role models and hope. Takei received the Vito Russo Award at the 25th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York and used his acceptance speech to shine the light on the work of the group.
The openly gay star said, "In the 25 years since its founding, GLAAD has dramatically changed American society for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people. I know, because as a closeted kid growing up in Los Angeles... all I saw of gays and lesbians in movies and television, or heard on radio, were caricatures of people who were mocked and laughed at, or pitied, or hated. "The media stripped us of all humanity and made us into pathetic stereotypes. The media then was a soul-crushing monster. GLAAD took on this formidable beast with its media savvy, political acumen and the power of its advocacy and transformed the media into a powerful force for change."
But he insisted the fight is not over yet - and GLAAD bosses still have a lot of work to do: "As long as LGBT people can be fired from their job for simply being who they are, our work isn’t done yet. As long as young people are kicked out of their families just for being who they are, our work is not done yet. As long as people are being bullied into feeling that their lives are so hopeless that they are driven to self-destructive acts, our work is not done."
Naomi Watts, Kylie Minogue, Emmy Rossum, Boy George, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Swoosie Kurtz and country star Kacey Musgraves were among the special guests who joined Takei at the Waldorf Astoria New York for the gala. Boy George introduced Minogue, who performed Can't Get You Out of My Head, while Grammy Award winner Kacey Musgraves played her LGBT-empowerment anthem Follow Your Arrow, and became the first country act to perform at the GLAAD Media Awards.
Winners included Orange Is the New Black (Outstanding Comedy Series) and Philomena (Outstanding Film), while transgender actress Candis Cayne took the stage to accept the Outstanding Individual Episode award on behalf of U.S. TV drama Elementary. Cayne portrayed Sherlock Holmes' housekeeper Ms. Hudson in the episode, titled Snow Angels.
