Like many out-of-work TV actresses, Cybill Shepherd has publicly announced her interest in returning to the tube -- as Regis Philbin's future sidekick. The ex-"Cybill" star told the New York Post today that she'd be more than happy to replace Kathie Lee Gifford on the morning talker "Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee" when Gifford leaves the show at the end of the season to pursue a career on Broadway.
"I would consider it a great privilege," the 40-something actress told the tabloid. "I adore Regis. He's one of the funniest, warmest and best people that have ever been on television."
She added, "A talk show is something that I've always wanted to do."
DOWN WITH DREAMWORKS? A documentary that dishes dirt on DreamWorks SKG for its now-defunct plan to build a studio complex on the beach in Playa Vista, Calif., will be broadcast by 32 PBS affiliates, according to Showbizdata.com. "The Last Stand -- The Struggle for Ballona Wetlands" will air throughout the month of April on participating stations.
BOY MEETS REALITY: ABC has announced the cancellation of the family oriented sitcom "Boy Meets World." The farewell episode of the show, which is part of the network's ballyhooed "TGIF" lineup, will air May 5.
The cast of "Freaks and Geeks" SAVE THE FREAKS: "Freaks and Geeks" fans are hoping to find a new network for the show, which was axed by NBC. Salon.com reports today that the "Freaks" freaks, calling themselves Operation Haverchuck, hope to interest other networks by placing a 40-inch ad in Daily Variety that's worth close to $4,000. Operation Haverchuck also asks fans to bombard the media and networks with e-mails, letters, and such.
WEB TV: Tech-zine indieWIRE reported today that makers of TiVo, the digital gadget that enables couch potatoes to rewind and fast-forward through TV programs, are expected to announce today that they've joined forces with the online film Web site IFILM. The deal will allow IFILM's shorts to be downloaded and watched by any TiVo customer.
