After acquiring a position as chief of staff, Potter contacts two of his former army buddies, Maxwell Klinger and Father Francis Mulcahy. Klinger and Mulcahy, who are also having difficulty adjusting to civilian life, accept Potter's invitation to work with him at the hospital. The series depicts their experiences working with veterans.
