Synopsis:
The story of Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff, who became jazz fans in Germany before Hitler clamped down on "degenerate" art. They established Blue Note Records in New York, which eventually went on to record the bulk of the great jazz musicians performing in the 1950s. The second half of the documentary deals with the issue of the greater popularity and appreciation of jazz in Europe than in the United States.
