Synopsis:
An ambitious but confusing and unsuccessful attempt to translate the satirical Aldous Huxley novel of a futuristic society in a place called Savageland 600 years in the future. No one there ages past thirty-five, babies are mass produced on an assembly line, and "engagings" (sexual trysts) are compulsory. A large, relatively unknown cast, reciting a space-aged gibberish that comes natural only to Robin Williams when he is doing Mork from Ork ("A soma a day keeps the jim jams away," one character philosophizes), and a tedious script make this three-hour movie (edited down from four before its premiere) difficult going. It did, however, garner three Emmy Award nominations: photography, art direction and set decoration, and costume design.
