Synopsis:
Treat Williams made his dramatic television debut as boxing great Jack Dempsey in this film covering his career, his first two marriages, his trial for draft evasion in World War I, his lifelong friendship with Damon Runyon and other celebrities, and his ring achievements. Sally Kellerman is Maxine Cates, his first wife, a jaded saloon singer ten years his senior; Victoria Tennant (her first role after "The Winds of War") is silent screen actress Estelle Taylor, who became the second Mrs. Dempsey; and Sam Waterston is Doc Kearns, who discovered the young Dempsey and managed his career to the heavyweight championship. Emmy Award nominations went to the costume designers and hairstylist.
