Synopsis:
After Ellen's mother Charlotte dies, she is left with her alcoholic father, Bill. Since Charlotte's mother Leonora and sisters Nadine and Betsy never approved of Charlotte's marriage to Bill, they neglect to see that Ellen needs their help when her father becomes abusive. But Ellen is a sensitive and determined girl with a magical quality that helps her transcend the somber reality of her existence and hold on to the hope of finding the perfect foster family.
