Synopsis:
From ancient Greek boats to modern cruise ships, every vessel that heads to sea is at risk of one of the most dangerous and deadly disasters that can happen aboard a ship -- fire. The program recounts some of the most famous fires at sea and how fire has been used as a potent maritime weapon of war. Senator John McCain reveals how he escaped certain death as a Navy pilot by leaping from his burning plane aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal. The program also features footage that chronicles the General Slocum disaster of 1904, which took the lives of over 1000 women and children in New York City's East River as hundreds of people watched helplessly from the river bank.

Other fire-at-sea disasters featured in the documentary include: the 1865 fire aboard the steamship Sultana as it was transporting 2,500 former Union soldiers from Confederate prison camps; and the mysterious 1934 fire aboard the Morro Castle as it was approaching New York harbor.
