Synopsis:
Soprano Renee Fleming, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky and the Orchestra of St. Luke's, under the direction of Mark Elder, perform in the opening night gala of the 35th anniversary season of Lincoln Center's Great Performers series. The first half of the program features Fleming and Hvorostovksy performing opera favorites from Puccini, Lehar, Gounod and Mozart; the second half features excerpts from Tchaikovsky's opera "Eugene Onegin," based on a Pushkin poem with libretto by K.S. Shilovsky. Actress Frances Sternhagen narrates the events of "Eugene Onegin."
