Synopsis:
Documentary that examines the Joseph Conrad novel, "Heart of Darkness." The program shows how Conrad's experiences in the Congo are interlaced with his narrator's description of a journey from idealism through moral decay to primeval savagery. Francis Ford Coppola discusses the themes he adapted from "Heart of Darkness" for his feature film "Apocalypse Now." Actor Martin Sheen, who plays the roll of captain Willard in the film, and screenwriter John Milius also comment on the novel's themes.
