Synopsis:
Television movie based on the novels of C.S. Forester about the exploits of British Naval Captain Horatio Hornblower at the beginning of the 19th century. The "Indy" rescues the three surviving crew of a wrecked British brig, one of whom is the legendary Captain Foster. When Hornblower leads a mission to Oran (Algiers) for supplies, he and his men are quarantined after exposure to the plague at the port. Hornblower spends much of his time with his books preapring for his lieutenant examination. After three weeks, he sits for his exam. Overcome by nerves, the intelligent Hornblower fails. Just as he is about to be dismissed, a blazing fireship is bearing down on the harbor from the Spanish side. Hornblower and Foster manage to keep the burning ship clear of nearby ships.
