Synopsis:
Puccini's trilogy of one-act operas (two melodramas and one comedy) is telecast in a live performance from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. "Il Tabarro" is set in the nineteenth century on the banks of the Seine in Paris and involves adultery and murder. "Suor Angelica" is set in a convent in seventeenth century Italy and describes the redemption of a nun who once bore a child out of wedlock. "Gianni Schicchi," based on a story from "The Divine Comedy," is set in medieval Florence and tells the tale of a schemer who tricks a dead man's greedy relatives out of an inheritance.
