Synopsis:
ABC's extensive coverage of "Liberty Weekend" includes over 17 hours of scheduled telecasting, beginning on July 2, 1986, with a "Liberty Weekend Preview" and ending on July 6, with the closing ceremonies from Giants Stadium in New Jersey. Other major events in the marathon coverage include the Opening Ceremonies, featuring the lighting of the Statue of Liberty by President Reagan, Op Sail, a Boston Pops concert, fireworks, the swearing-in of new citizens, a New York Philharmonic concert from Central Park, and a salute to the world of sports.
