Synopsis:
Based on Elmore Leonard's book "Maximum Bob," about a flamboyant and power-hungry Florida judge named "Maximum" Bob Gibbs, who is known for inflicting the maximum sentence on conficted felons. He runs the town of Deep Water as his own personal fiefdom until he meets his match in attractive, conscientious public defender Kathy Baker, who has recently arrived in his jurisdiction. Bob also has his hands full with his wife Leanne, a local celebrity as the star of a mermaid act until she had a near-death experience with an alligator. As a result, the spirit of Wanda Grace, a 12-year-old Southern slave from a century ago, inhabits Leanne's body at inopportune moments. The voice of order in Deep Water is Sheriff Gary Hammond, whose honesty and integrity is above reproach. Sheriff Hammond, a widower who has taken up ballroom dancing to get over the loss of his wife, admires Kathy's ambition and savvy.
