After a special screening, the Black Congressional Caucus thought "Mr. Dugan" was offensive to black officials and threatened a nationwide switchoff campaign if the series aired. Norman Lear and his TAT Communications Company, producers of the show, withdrew the program, explaining "we have not yet totally fulfilled our intention for the series..."
