Synopsis:
Patricia Hearst, grandaughter of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, hosts this behind-the-scenes look at her grandfather's legendary castle at San Simeon. Part 1 goes behind the scenes of one of America's most costly and treasure-filled private homes. For 30 years, the powerful media industry personality devoted himself to the building and furnishing of this home, which he modestly called "the ranch." Now a California state park, the castle is visited by a million people a year. Part 2 explores the golden glamour age of Hearst Castle, when Hollywood stars and literary and political giants visited and enjoyed the lifestyle that William Randolph created there.
