Synopsis:
Story of the expedition to the Antarctic by British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. The expedition was abruptly halted in January 1915 when Shackleton's ship, "The Endurance," became trapped in the ice floe of the Weddell Sea for 11 months. In November 1915, the ship sank from ice pressure and the crew was forced to spend five months on the frozen sea. In April 1916, the crew landed on the uninhabited Elephant Island. with no hope of rescue, Shackleton and five others set out on an 800-mile, 18-day trip across extremely rough seas to South Georgia island. It would be another three months -- nearly a year-and-a-half from initially being trapped in the Weddell Sea -- before Shackleton would successfully rescue the remaining crew members from Elephant Island. The crew of 28 men, incredibly, all survived.
