Synopsis:
Adaptation of Howard Fast's novel about General George Washington and the Continental Army as they try to defeat the British and their German mercenaries in 1776 during the American Revolution. General Washington's troop of 10,000 fighting men has dwindled to a meager 2000. Word has reached Washington that his demand for more military support has been denied by Congress. Washington realizes that retreat means the revolution is lost and so he embarks upon the defining moment of his life. Under his command, the Revolutionary Army slips across the Delaware River on Christmas Eve night 1776 and hands the British their first defeat, with not a single American casualty. The legendary attack against the British Army's German mercenaries, the Hessians, at Trenton, New Jersey, changes the course of the war.
