Tipton's will instructs Michael Anthony to reveal the files of people -- selected by a means known only to Tipton -- who have been mysteriously presented with a tax-free cashier's check for a million dollars. Via flashback sequences, John Beresford Tipton's intrusion on fate is revealed as stories disclose whether the money helped or hurt people's lives.
