Synopsis:
Set in 1920s England, Mrs. Adela Bradley, a glamorous, wickedly outspoken divorcee and crime-solving sleuth, arrives at the country estate of the Bing family to celebrate the engagement of her goddaughter Eleanor to explorer Everard Mountjoy. Accompanying Mrs. Bradley is her devoted chauffeur and crimesolving sidekick, George Moody. Also on hand are patriarch-widower Alistair Bing; his son, Garde and his current girlfriend, Dorothy Manners; and Bertie Philipson, with whom the now wheelchair-bound Eleanor was once desperately in love and who was driving the car the night of the accident that crippled her. Eleanor's engagement is suddenly ended when Mountjoy is found dead in his bath, apparently drowned. Mrs. Bradley and George find conclusive proof that the explorer was, in fact, murdered. When Bertie is caught in an attempt on Dorothy's life, it seems he is the murderer, but Mrs. Bradley's investigation reveals a chain of blackmail, secret liaisons, buried evidence, and an unexpected conclusion.
