Synopsis:
Documentary about nightclubs beginning with Prohibition in the 1920s, when nightclubs became an American phenomenon. Refined in the 1930s and '40s, the American nightclub became the premiere form of live entertainment in America. Movies, radio and television drew talent from nightclubs and emulated their settings. Most of the top nightclubs were secretly owned by mobsters. Others were run by visionary impresarios, like Lou Walters, father of journalist Barbara Walters.
