Synopsis:
The special is actually a play within a play wherein actress Valerie Bertinelli portrays herself as well as Mamie, the teenage daughter of English novelist Charles Dickens. The story begins with Valerie arriving in London to play Mamie on British television. Valerie learns about life vicariously through the character she portrays, and her character, Mamie, comes to an appreciation of her father as a man and an author.
