Synopsis:
A performance of Puccini's melodrama telecast live from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. Set in Rome during the Napoleanic era, the story relates the love affair of the renowned singer, Floria Tosca, and the painter Mario Cavardossi, a revolutionary helping to overthrow the corrupt Roman regime. The painter is captured by Baron Scarpia, the reprobate chief of police who seeks sexual favors from Tosca in return for her lover's freedom.
