Synopsis:
A single working mother must reconcile with her rebellious teenage daughter when they both confront life-threatening illnesses. Julie Portman does everything she can to ensure the best possible future for her children, college student Michael and teenager Emma. While her son appreciates his mother's sacrifices, Emma rebels against her mother's authority. When Emma begins skipping school and her grades plummet, Julie grows increasingly frustrated, further damaging their strained relationship. Julie realizes she must give her daughter a little breathing room, so she begins to focus on herself, entertaining a romance with George, a local fisherman. But when Emma is suddenly diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Julie must put everything aside to guide her daughter through treatment. When Julie, herself, gets an abnormal test result, the two women realize that they must make amends and cherish the time they have together.
