Synopsis:
Miniseries about the romance between Queen Victoria and her husband Albert. When Victoria took power in 1837 she was an inexperienced and seemingly unqualified girl of 18. She had previously been controlled by her mother and only barely realized how close she was to ruling the world's dominant power. Taking to her responsibilities quickly, the new queen laid eyes on her first cousin, Prince Albert of Germany, and fell deeply in love. Though he respected Victoria, it took Albert much longer to return her love. As their marriage endured, the relationship grew closer. During her early years, Victoria relied on the political counsel of Lord Melbourne, her first prime minister. When he lost his office, Prince Albert emerged as Victoria's closest advisor -- eventually referred to by the queen as "king in everything but name." Before his death at 42, the couple had nine children. Queen Victoria would never fully recover from the loss of her husband and advisor.
