Synopsis:
Sammy, a 10-year-old boy pretends to be a deaf mute after his mother abandons him at the Barrington, Georgia, bus station. There, he spends twenty-six years in secret silence, realizing the benefits of pretending he cannot hear or speak. Thinking he is deaf, the townsfolk have blurted out their true feelings, uncensored. It is only when he overhears a crook and his partner planning a scam that he realizes he must speak out to expose the truth.
