Synopsis:

The documentary portrays the status of black domestic workers and how things have changed (and how they've stayed the same) since the start of the civil rights movement in the '50s. It shows how the domestic's children view their parent's work, whether they find their jobs satisfying or degrading, and how the lives of butlers and "mammies" became the basis for black stereotypes in popular culture. Included in the program is a short film titled "Hairpiece," an animated short on black consciousness in the context of hair styling.
