A First Look At Amazon’s Reboot ‘The Tick’

Amazon Video recently announced some of their upcoming fall lineup, and the most-anticipated series surprisingly involves a man in a skin-tight blue suit. No, it’s not Superman, it’s the Tick!

According to Amazon’s synopsis, The Tick will follow the story of an underdog accountant with no superpowers who realizes his city is owned by a global super villain who was believed to be dead. During his attempt to uncover the conspiracy, he meets the strange blue superhero known as “the Tick.”

The show seems pretty weird, but it does have an excellent cast including Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) and Valorie Curry (House Of Lies). The show is written and executive produced by Supernatural’s Ben Edlund, with additional executive producers Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld who worked on Bones and A Series Of Unfortunate Events respectively. It’s also directed by The Dark Night’s Wally Pfister. There are some major superhero-movie players behind this series, so everything is pointing to a very weird win!

The Tick might be a new series for Amazon, but it’s a reboot from a short-lived, live-action TV show. The satirical character was originally created by Edlund in 1986 as a mascot for the New England Comics store. Following his creation, the Tick was given a comic book series that lead to an animated TV show, a live action TV show, a video game and lots of cool merchandise.

Amazon released a couple of snaps to promote the series, which premieres on August 19th. Check them out below (and hi, Whoopi Goldberg!).
