A Journey to the New World | 1998
Special based on the Scholastic book series that tells fictional stories about heroic young women during important periods in American history. After 65 days cooped up with her parents on the "Mayflower," 12-year-old Remember Patience Whipple has finally arrived in the New World. As "Mem" writes in her diary, life in the New World is very difficult. When Squanto, an English-speaking Indian, strolls peacefully into the village one day, most of the settlers are initially fearful -- but not Mem. She forms a special bond with Squanto, and he teaches the settlers how to plant new crops in order to survive the harsh winter. Squanto's friendship helps Mem deal with a devastating family tragedy, and she goes on to celebrate her first Thanksgiving in her new home.
