Paula AbdulFormer American Idol judge Paula Abdul is reportedly in talks to rival Simon Cowell‘s hit talent shows by bringing back 1980s TV contest Star Search.

The show, which gave singers, dancers and comedians a chance at fame, first hit TV screens in 1983 and was hosted by the late Ed McMahon. The series ran until 1995 and featured performances from future stars including BeyonceJustin Timberlake and Britney Spears in the early 1990s.

But now Abdul, who quit Cowell’s hit singing contest last year, is said to be in negotiations with TV bosses at ABC to relaunch the show once again. The big-budget remake will reportedly see the singer share hosting and judging duties, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The show is said to be slated for a summer 2010 launch.
