Television movie based on Elizabeth Strout's novel about the tensions and longings that exist in the lives of ordinary people. Amy is a shy 15-year-old girl who lives with her single mother, Isabelle, a secretary at the local mill. Apart from Isabelle's secret love for her married boss, Avery Clark, their lives are routine and predictable until Amy violates her mother's trust by engaging in an affair with her high school math teacher, Mr. Robertson. When Isabelle learns of the affair, their relationship explodes. Isabelle's punishment is unique and extreme, threatening to destroy them both.
