Beaches set for West End run before Broadway – report

A musical adaptation of Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey’s beloved movie Beaches is expected to hit the West End in London before bowing on Broadway.
Iris Rainer Dart, 74, who wrote the novel on which the 1988 tearjerker was based, has reworked the story for the stage and co-written the score with newcomer David Austin.
The production hit stages with two different companies in Virginia and Chicago in 2014 and 2015 and sources claim cast members from both shows will feature in both the London and Broadway runs.
Dart has confirmed plans to take the production to the West End for a run before Broadway, telling Entertainment Tonight, “That would be the hope.”
Beaches was remade for TV last year (17), with Idina Menzel and Nia Long taking on the roles originated by Midler and Hershey.
