Best of the West | 1981
During the closing days of the Civil War, Sam Best, widower and father of a ten-year-old boy, marries Elvira Devereaux, a beautiful southern belle he met while he and his fellow Union soldiers were burning her father's plantation. Following the war, the Bests move to Philadelphia, but soon afterward Sam decides to forsake city life for the simple life of a shopkeeper out west.
Misguided and naive, Sam settles in Copper Creek, Montana, a rough-and-tumble town that is owned and operated by Parker Tillman, the insidious proprietor of the Square Deal Saloon. When fate intervenes and Sam is forced to stand up to a vicious gunfighter, the grateful citizens elect him their town marshal. The series depicts Sam's adventures as a general store owner and town marshal.
