‘Blues Brothers’ TV Show in the Works

It looks like a Blues Brothers TV show will be premiering around the 30-year anniversary of John Belushi‘s death.

Belushi’s wife, Judy — who along with original Blues Brother Dan Aykroyd owns the rights to the franchise — has written a pilot script with former Saturday Night Live scribe Anne Beatts and two others, and the group is currently pitching the series to networks.

The show would center around Jake and Elwood Blues — made famous by Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively, in a 1978 SNL sketch and then a 1980 movie of the same name — who have recently been released from prison and are searching for Elwood’s real father.

“I think these are great American characters,” Judy Belushi told Variety. “We want to keep them alive. We chose to introduce them as new characters but do it in an way that they have some history, have some life behind them … We’re not trying to replicate Dan and John, but Jake and Elwood.”
