Bristol Palin Will Dance With The Stars (UPDATED!)

bristol palinIt’s pretty hard to talk about anything that isn’t the Emmy awards right now. We’re all busy figuring out whether or not Tina Fey‘s going to wear another origami dress or if Steve Carell is going to enlist his wife to write another acceptance speech for him. But alas, there’s other T.V. news to discuss today that’s almost (if not more important) than Tina Fey receiving her 5th Emmy for 30 Rock.

Rumors about the new cast for Dancing with the Stars have been out and about over the last few days, and today we’ve learned that Bristol Palin (Sarah Palin’s daughter) has signed on to participate in the competition that pins flamingo costume against flamingo costume. We last saw Bristol comparing herself to Yo-Yo Ma on the ABC Family series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, so we can understand why she’d feel dancing as a star was totally within her wheelhouse. Also joining the 20th season of DWTS is David Hasselhoff, who after getting roasted by Hulk and Pamela Anderson on Comedy Central, has re-emerged with what appears to be a new sense of self. Also competing will be Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino from Jersey Shore, who was probably roped in under the condition all his costumes be shirtless so he can continue to promote his brand. Also joining those three will be Audrina Patridge from The Hills, the R&B singer Brandy, Michael Bolton (!!!) and former NFL-somebody, Kurt Warner.

But all the spots aren’t filled just yet. Kirstie Alley was supposed to be involved in the show, but now it’s looking like she won’t be, as she indicated by posting an update to her Twitter account that it was untrue. Also still in the running for spots are Florence Henderson, Margaret Cho and Jennifer Grey (Florence would play the token oldie, while Jennifer Grey would probably fill the “ex-dancer” role, and Margaret Cho would play the “sourpuss who doesn’t take anything seriously until 18 hours of dancing each day helps her lose some weight, and then she’s terribly sad when she’s voted off.”)

All in all, this list is pretty substantial. All the bases are covered, and even though it’s going to be pretty hard to root against The Situation, I’m predicting David Hasselhoff will be the crowd favorite and that this will be the place where Bristol Palin realizes that nobody cares about her OR her opportunities.

UPDATE: The final cast of the 11th season of Dancing With The Stars was revealed last night, and most of the celebrities listed above WILL be participating — including Hasselhoff, The Situation, Audrina Patridge, Michael Bolton, Brandy, Margaret Cho, Florence Henderson, Jennifer Grey, and Bristol Palin. Also putting on their dancing shoes are Rick Fox (actor and former LA Laker), Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals, and Kyle Massey of That’s So Raven.
