George Newbern auditioned for Back to the Future’s Marty McFly

Actor GEORGE NEWBERN’s career has come full circle with new show GRANITE FLATS after previously auditioning to work with co-star CHRISTOPHER LLOYD on 1985 sci-fi classic BACK TO THE FUTURE.
The Scandal star reveals he was still in college when he flew to Los Angeles to try out for the lead role of Marty McFly – a part which eventually went to Michael J. Fox.
He says, “I flew out for a screen test my junior year in college. I was with Chris Lloyd and Crispin Glover, and all the rest of the cast, except Michael Fox, clearly, and didn’t get it (the role), clearly.”
Newbern has since scored the chance to work with Lloyd on TV drama Granite Flats, but he admits his 76-year-old co-star cannot recall their first meeting, adding, “He doesn’t remember, I don’t think!”
