The ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Stars: Where Are They Now?

1

Sarah Michelle Gellar - Buffy Summers

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar
The WB/Splash News
Even though she started as a very young girl, the show's star didn't gain fame until she was a bit older. Gellar (actually, legally, her name is Sarah Michelle Prinze these days) is one of the most iconic stars of the '90s thanks to Buffy and films like I Know What You Did Last Summer (which introduced her to her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Cruel Intentions. Since the show ended, Sarah Michelle starred in the Scooby-Doo films with her beau, The Grudge and its sequel, as well as smaller-scale films like The Air I Breathe. She starred in (and produced) the short-lived series Ringer in 2011. She also co-starred with the late Robin Williams in CBS' The Crazy Ones from 2013-2014. In 2009, Gellar and Prinze welcomed a daughter, Charlotte Grace, and in 2012, a son, Rocky James.

Alyson Hannigan - Willow Rosenberg

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alyson Hannigan
The WB/Splash News
Hannigan appeared in the first two American Pie films while she was still on Buffy. She played the iconic Michelle "This One Time, At Band Camp" Flaherty, a role she later reprised in American Wedding and American Reunion. In 2005, she was cast as Lily, love interest of Jason Segel's Marshall, on the long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Hannigan married her Buffy co-star (!), Angel's Wesley Wyndham-Price, Alexis Denisof. The couple welcomed the first of their two daughters, Satyana Marie Denisof, on Hannigan's 35th birthday in 2009, and their second, Keeva Jane, in 2012. Obviously, we pray that Gellar and Hannigan's children will grow up to be little Buffy and Willows, but in the meantime, we're comforted to know that Hannigan and her husband Denisof are godparents to series creator Joss Whedon's son, Arden.

Nicholas Brendon - Xander Harris

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Nicholas Brendon
The WB/Splash News
Nicholas Brendon's post-Buffy days have been a bit less glamorous than his two co-stars'. While he's managed to secure steady work with roles on shows like Private Practice and Criminal Minds, his personal life has sadly gained more attention. In 2004, Brendon announced that he had voluntarily entered rehab. In 2010, he was tasered and arrested by police officers for resisting arrest and three other misdemeanors. Later that year, he was sentenced to a one-year suspended jail sentence, probation, and community service after pleading no contest and entering rehab for treatment. In October 2014, he married Moonda Tee in Las Vegas; 12 days later, he was arrested in Idaho while participating in Tree City Comic Con. The couple separated and announced plans to divorce in February 2015, and two days later, Brendon was arrested again in Fort Lauderdale for trashing a hotel room. After getting arrested once again in March 2015, Brendon gave an interview where he opened up about his struggles with addiction and depression. Here's hoping he'll recover and find happiness (and that he also continues to help write Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten comic book series).

Anthony Stewart Head - Rupert Giles

In order to play Giles, Head had to move to America despite his family remaining in his native Britain, which is why he inevitably left the show a bit early. Since Buffy, Head has appeared on the BBC Two series Manchild, along with the shows Little BritainMerlinDominion, and You, Me & Them. He's also appeared in films like Sparkle alongside Stockard Channing and The Iron Lady with Meryl Streep. Head has also released some music throughout the years with various collaborators.

Charisma Carpenter - Cordelia Chase

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charisma Carpenter
The WB/Splash News
Cordelia was always one of our favorite characters in Sunnydale, which is why we were so upset when she left the show (even if it was just to go to Angel). After Buffy, Carpenter married Damian Hardy and had a son with him in 2003; in 2007, the couple filed for divorce. In 2004, she posed nude for Playboy while still appearing on Angel. After that series ended, Carpenter had roles on a number of shows, including GreekSons of AnarchySupernaturalCharmed, with a larger role on Veronica Mars and the lead in 2012's The Lying Game. She and Nicholas Brendon also did a little TV movie together (Relative Chaos). Carpenter can next be seen in the much-anticipated series Scream Queens.
6

James Marsters - Spike

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, James Marsters
The WB/Splash News
Surprisingly, Joss Whedon never intended for Spike to be a long-term character. He initially resisted the character's popularity, not wanting a second romantic vampire around, but after Cordelia was switched over to Angel, a spot opened up that only Spike could fill. Like the rest of the cast members, Marsters remains involved with some of the writing of the canonical comic book series for the TV shows, with titles like Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike and Dru and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spike: Into the Light. He's also found success narrating audiobooks (which isn't surprising since he has that dashing voice) and has appeared in several episodes of Smallville. He made a guest appearance, with Charisma Carpenter, on the series Supernatural in a season 7 episode. Marsters has also continued to work in music, both pursuing a solo career and releasing albums with his band, Ghost of the Robot. In 2011, Marsters was married for the second time, this time to his girlfriend Patricia Rahman, in Los Angeles.

Marc Blucas - Riley Finn

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marc Blucas
The WB/WENN
After melting our hearts as Riley, Blucas went on to star in films like Summer CatchWe Were SoldiersFirst DaughterView From The TopStay CoolThe Jane Austen Book Club, and Knight & Day. He also made TV appearances on shows like House and Castle before landing the lead role on Necessary Roughness for its first two seasons and the lead on Killer Women before it was canceled. In 2009, Blucas married journalist Ryan Hodden, becoming stepfather to her children from her marriage to Christian Slater. According to his Instagram, all his dreams have come true: he has "13 chickens, 2 rabbits, 2 dogs, 2 kittens, 4 kids, 1 wife, 15 acres, 300 year old farmhouse." And he's still as cute as ever.
8

Michelle Trachtenberg - Dawn Summers

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Michelle Trachtenberg
The WB/Splash News
Trachtenberg didn't appear on Buffy until after she skyrocketed to fame in the '90s through Nickelodeon series The Adventures of Pete & Pete and the film Harriet the Spy. After the series ended, she appeared in films like Eurotrip and Ice Princess, as well as playing a spoiled pop star on Six Feet Under. She also appeared in Black Christmas before becoming the deliciously evil Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl. She was cast as a main character on the short-lived series Mercy before making a number of guest appearances on other shows (most notably Weeds). She most recently appeared in an episode of Sleepy Hollow and can next be seen opposite Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver in Sister Cities.
9

David Boreanaz - Angel

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, David Boreanaz
The WB/Splash News
After leaving Buffy, Boreanaz moved on to Angel (we hope you already knew that). Once that show was canceled, it didn't take long for Boreanaz to find another long-term project: Bones. He's starred FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth on the series since 2005 (with no signs of stopping as it heads into its 11th season). In 2010, Boreanaz admitted to having an extramarital affair with Rachel Uchitel, one of the women Tiger Woods allegedly cheated on his wife with. Soon after admitting to it, text messages emerged on the internet confirming the affair's sexual nature. Boreanaz's wife, actress Jaime Bergman, was pregnant with the couple's second child at the time of the affair. It seems the pair have worked out their marital issues though -- in 2013, they launched a nail polish line with their friends called Chrome Girl.

Eliza Dushku - Faith Lehane

Faith was supposed to get her own slayer spin-off after Buffy ended, but Dushku declined the offer. Instead, she played the lead role of Tru Davies on the series Tru Calling and later played Echo on Dollhouse. She's had numerous film appearances and guest spots on TV shows ranging from Ugly Betty and White Collar to The League and even RuPaul's Drag Race. Recently, she was cast as a main character for the Cinemax series Banshee's fourth season. She's founder and CEO of her own production company, Boston Diva Productions, as well as on the board of directors for THRIVEGulu Organization, which aims to help the survivors of war.
11

Amber Benson - Tara Maclay

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Amber Benson
The WB/WENN
Since her character was killed off, Benson has appeared on TV shows ranging from Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy to Sarah Michelle Gellar's Ringer, even appearing as "vegetarian" vampire Lenore on Supernatural. She has also directed, produced, and starred in a bunch of her own films, including Chance (which featured Buffy's James Marsters), Lovers, Liars & Lunatics, and she also co-directed Drones with Buffy co-star Adam Busch. She has also written a ton of Buffy comics and other books! Most recently, the first book in her series, The Witches of Echo Park, was released.

Emma Caulfield - Anya Jenkins

Following her role as human-turned-vengeance-demon-turned-human, Caulfield appeared in episodes of Private PracticeRoyal Pains, Husbands, and played the Blind Witch on Once Upon A Time. She hosted her own vlog until recently, as well as appearing in some films like Back in the Day and Primer. In 2010, her marriage to Cornelius Grobbelaar ended.

Seth Green - Daniel “Oz” Osbourne

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Seth Green
The WB/Splash News
Everyone's favorite werewolf from Sunnydale went on to become the creator, executive producer, director, writer, and most frequent voice actor on Adult Swim's Emmy-winning Robot Chicken (which many of his Buffy co-stars have appeared on). Green also provides the voice for Chris Griffin on Family Guy; he's made appearances on numerous TV shows, including That 70's Show, Will & Grace, Entourage, Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, My Name Is Earl, How I Met Your Mother, Community, Mom, and starred on the short-lived series Dads. In 2009, he married actress Clare Grant.
14

Kristine Sutherland - Joyce Summers

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Kristine Sutherland

Since Joyce Summers' death on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sutherland has appeared on One Life to Live and in the movie The Perfect Wedding. It seems her most recent work is an upcoming movie entitled Are You Afraid of the 90s?, according to her Reddit AMA and her active Twitter. Honestly, Sutherland never has to do anything again. Joyce Summers is a legend, and we love her for it.
15

Juliet Landau - Drusilla

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Juliet Landau
The WB/Twitter
Drusilla, or, as the New York Times put it, "an acid-addled cross between Ophelia and Cassandra," is easily one of the greatest characters from the Buffyverse, largely because of Landau's incredible acting. Since her time on both Buffy and Angel, Landau has co-written two issues of the Angel comics (and is slated to write a 5-part Drusilla miniseries). A lot of her post-Drusilla work has been smaller appearances on a wide variety of shows, most of her success stems from the stage. Landau's work in the theater, including working with Al Pacino, has gotten her critical acclaim.

Mercedes McNab - Harmony Kendall

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mercedes McNab
The WB/Splash News
Everyone's favorite vapid-high-school-popular-girl-turned-vampire made her way from guest star to series regular throughout her time on Buffy and Angel. Since Angel ended, she's made guest appearances on PyschSupernatural, and Criminal Minds. She also stars in the horror films Hatchet and Hatchet 2, as well as straight-to-video horror movies Dark Reel and Thirst (and the TV movie Vipers with Tara Reid). In 2012, she married hotel founder Marc Henderson, with whom she had a daughter, Vaunne Sydney, in 2013.
17

Danny Strong - Jonathan Levinson

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Danny Strong
The WB/WENN
Playing the often-bullied, low self-esteem suffering Jonathan (who once tried to kill himself, then cast a spell to make all his dreams retroactively come true, then became a member of the Trio), Danny Strong certainly remains memorable for fans. He's now arguably the most successful of all the Buffy alumni. He went on to appear memorably as Doyle on Gilmore Girls and as Danny on Mad Men before taking over the world by writing movies like Recount, HBO's Game ChangeLee Daniels' The Butler, as well as both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Parts 1 & 2. Oh yeah, he's also co-creator and executive producer of the hit TV series Empire. With all that going on, we have no idea how he still has time to guest star on shows like GirlsJustifiedGrey's Anatomy, and How I Met Your Mother.
