Can ‘American Idol’ Regain No. 1 Spot From ‘Big Bang Theory’?

7800555.jpgDespite America’s love for everything Ryan Seacrest-related, yesterday the unthinkable happened:

For the first time in five years, another show topped America Idol in the Nielsen ratings. Big Bang Theory took the number one slot on Thursday night, with 16.1 million viewers and a 5.2 rating among adults, compared to Idol’s 15.4 million and 4.4 rating.

The 11-year-old powerhouse tried to revamp itself with the addition of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez last year, yet it’s hit an all-time low.

Clearly it’s time to try a new strategy, and we have a few suggestions:

1) Bring back Paula Abdul. Having her wear a Mr. Spock costume couldn’t hurt.

2) Replace American Idol musicians with Star Wars cantina band.

3) Reveal that Simon Cowell is Randy Jackson’s father.
