Auguring well for the weekend, Warner Bros.’ Cats and Dogs took in $9 million on Wednesday, Independence Day, while Miramax/Dimension’s Scary Movie 2 was close behind with $8.8 million. The grosses of each of those films were more than double that of Warner’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence, which topped last weekend’s box office but which earned only $4.4 million on the Fourth. Another competitor, 20th Century Fox’s Kiss of the Dragon, enters the fray Friday.
