Charleston Movie Theaters: Terrace Theatre
Terrace Theatre is Charleston’s only independent theater, according to its Facebook page. The theater was voted one of America’s top 10 independent movie theaters and is home to the Annual Charleston Film Festival.
Terrace Theatre has six auditoriums fitted with comfortable leather seats. The theater offers specialty and regular concessions including a selection of beers and wines. Terrace Theatre shows current releases as well as a variety of films released in previous years.
Reviewers are very complimentary of Terrace Theatre, saying that their experiences here are superior to those at a large chain movie theater. Charleston Movie Theaters: Regal Cinebarre Mt. Pleasant
Located five miles from Charleston is the Regal Cinebarre Mt. Pleasant, this theater has a full-service restaurant for movie-goers to enjoy while you watch your film. Options include small platers, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads, as well as desserts and frozen alcoholic beverages. The theater also has a full bar in the lobby!
The Regal Cinebarre Mt. Pleasant has seating along with counters that make it easy to enjoy your food. Guests are prompted to choose their seats when buying their tickets so you can reserve a good seat if you purchase in advance. The theater also has an arcade where you can play games before or after your movie.

Citadel Mall Stadium 16 is the only theater in Charleston in IMAX. IMAX is an immersive technology that has precise audio and high-quality imaging, giving guests a superior movie-going experience.

Charleston Movie Theaters: Moonlite Theaters Drive-In
Moonlite Theaters Drive-In screens movies each Saturday in Mt. Pleasant. The drive-in also sometimes hosts live music and food trucks. It screens fan-favorite films released in years past. Movie-goers can watch from their cars or set up chairs and blankets outside.

Located in North Charleston’s Northwoods Mall, Northwoods Stadium Cinema has stadium seating in its auditoriums. The seats are made of comfortable leather and recline electrically. Guests can choose their seats when they purchase their tickets, so there is no need to rush to your movie!

Charleston Movie Theaters: Regal Palmetto Grande
The Regal Palmetto Grande is located about 10 miles outside of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. The theater does not have a box office, so you must purchase your tickets either online or at the concession stand. The decor in the lobby is bright and colorful, making the movie-going experience exciting.
The Regal Palmetto Grande has 16 auditoriums and a large lobby and concession area. The theater offers a typical movie theater fare and sometimes has alcoholic beverages available to purchase. Charleston Movie Theaters: Ivanhoe Family Cinemas
Located about an hour outside of Charleston, Ivanhoe Family Cinemas is a locally owned and operated movie theater in Walterboro. Ticket prices at this theater are very reasonable compared to bigger chains, with adult tickets only costing $7. The theater’s seats were recently renovated and seat selection is first-come, first-serve.
Ivanhoe Family Cinemas offers typical concessions at a reasonable price and allows refills on large drinks and popcorn. The theater received a 2020 Reader’s Choice Award from The Press and Standard of Walterboro. One reviewer on Google wrote, “Great place to see a movie. The popcorn is hot, the seats are new and very comfortable. The screen is digital, bright and clear. The whole interior is clean and fresh.”

Charleston Movie Theaters: Cinemark Movies 8 Summerville
Cinemark Movies 8 is located about a half-hour outside of Charleston in Summerville. The theater has ticketing kiosks in the lobby where guests can purchase tickets and choose their seats. Tickets at this theater are significantly cheaper than at other chains, costing $6.50 at most for adult tickets.
Reviewers said that while the Cinemark Movies 8 Summerville is not the most modern theater, the clean facilities and fair pricing are what keeps them coming back. One reviewer on Google wrote, “My favorite movie theater ever!!… Best staff best prices and best merchandise!”

Charleston Movie Theaters: Highway 21 Drive-In
The Highway 21 Drive-In is located in the city of Beaufort, about an hour outside of Charleston. The drive-in offers all of the latest releases on two screens for guests to enjoy from the comfort of their cars. It is open every night except for Mondays and shows double features on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Highway 21 Drive-In has an extensive food menu available for movie-goers. This includes burger and hot dog meals, chicken nuggets, snow cones, and even funnel cakes! Bug spray and mosquito coils are also available to purchase to keep bugs away as you enjoy your movie.
Gates open at 6:30 and guests can purchase tickets upon arrival. Reviewers said that it is definitely worth the drive from Charleston to see a movie at the Highway 21 Drive-In.

Charleston Movie Theaters: Regal Azalea Square & RPX
The Regal Azalea Square & RPX is located about a half-hour outside of Charleston in Summerville. This theater features Regal Premium Experience (RPX), which provides guests with “uncompressed surround sound and bright eye-popping images in 2D and RealD 3D.”
The Regal Azalea Square & RPX offers typical concessions such as popcorn, candy, hot dogs, and soft drinks. The theater has 16 auditoriums with comfortable seating that guests can reserve when they purchase their tickets. Tickets can be purchased at a kiosk located in the theater’s lobby, as well as on Regal’s website.
One reviewer on Google wrote, “The theater seating is nice and comfortable with ample room, great sound and an overall enjoyable experience.”
