Charlie Sheen on ‘Idol’: ‘I Could Give These Kids Guidance Without Leading Them to Suicide’

Charlie SheenWould you want Charlie Sheen to have a say in the fate of your career? Because, if you’re an aspiring singer with the hopes of breaking out through the country’s most iconic musical competition series, you just might. A few rumors have been circulating that Sheen could take on judging responsibilities on Fox’s American Idol, after the series’ producer Nigel Lythgoe told TMZ that he’d be interested in the actor as a judge.

This might seem farfetched (TMZ even proposed the idea that Lythgoe was joking) considering the actor’s lack of musical background, and his notorious reputation for being difficult to work with. However, in light of reports that both Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez would be exiting the program, Idol should be on the lookout for some high-profile talent to fill the judging seats. And even in the dawn of his “rehabilitation period,” Sheen earns big ratings.

The actor hasn’t been approached with an offer yet, but he is well aware of Lythgoe’s reported statement, and has publicized his terms in hopes of reaching a deal with the network. One of Sheen’s stipulations, as posted on TMZ, is that Idol must grant an equivalent of 20% of Sheen’s weekly salary to the charities Autism Speaks, JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), and the Boys and Girls Club (which provides after-school programs, specifically for children in need). This follows recent news that Sheen has taken to donating at least $1 million of his Anger Management salary to U.S. troops. It looks like Sheen’s My Name Is Earl phase is really being kicked up a notch.
