Claire Danes Heading to Showtime for ‘Homeland’ Pilot

Hollywood.comEmmy winner Claire Danes has signed on for the lead role in the Showtime pilot Homeland, the network announced yesterday.  Danes will play Carrie Anderson, a C.I.A. officer investigating the mysterious return of a U.S. soldier after more than seven years in Iraq.  The pilot – which marks Danes’ first return to television since she starred in My So-Called Life in the mid-nineties – is based loosely on the Israeli television series Prisoners of War.

24‘s Howard Gordon has signed on to executive produce with Alex Gansa (24, The X-Files).  The two wrote the pilot together with the help of Gideon Raff, the creator of the original Prisoners of War.  Michael Cuesta (Dexter) will direct the pilot episode.

While there’s no word yet on who will star opposite Danes as male lead Sergeant Scott Brody, Showtime is expected to announce their other casting picks shortly.
