Cobra Starship breaking up after 10 years together

Pop dance band Cobra Starship are splitting up after 10 years together.
The group, which was originally comprised of frontman Gabe Saporta, guitarist Ryland Blackinton, bassist Alex Suarez, drummer Nate Novarro, and keyboard player Victoria Asher, released a new song, titled Never Been In Love, in August (15), but now it appears that will be their last – and there will be no follow-up to 2011’s Night Shades album.
“After many incredible years, I’m making the difficult decision to close the book on Cobra Starship,” a statement from Saporta reads. “If you stop reading this now, I want to say thank you if you’ve ever supported Cobras in any way. Whether you came to our shows and bought (merchandise), or simply listened to a track and shared it with a friend, you allowed us to live out the most incredible adventure, and I am eternally grateful for that.”
Saporta is now looking into new ventures and has formed The Artist Group to manage musicians.
“In the early days of (my other band) Midtown, we got into a really bad contract dispute and couldn’t release anything,” he tells Billboard.com. “So I was just like, ‘I’m going to manage bands and learn from the inside’.”
While Saporta is focusing on his new company, he is also open to performing some farewell shows with Cobra Starship.
“I’m not opposed to doing farewell shows, but for me right now, we don’t want to release anything that we just had, and have it be half-a**ed,” he continues. “For me it’s like, ‘Do it 100 per cent, or don’t do it (at all)’.”
The news comes a year after Suarez and Blackinton quit the band and were replaced by Eric Halvorsen and Andy Barr.
