Damon Albarn: ‘Adele furore was pathetic’

British rocker Damon Albarn has dismissed the furore over his rumoured feud with Adele as “pathetic”.
The Blur frontman hit the studio with the pop singer to work on tracks for her new album 25, but the collaboration fell flat and the rocker later admitted he did not think Adele would be using any of his contributions.
He also seemingly criticised the star by implying she lacks confidence, telling Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her… And I’m not a producer, so… I don’t know what is happening really… Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so. Let’s wait and see… The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young.”
Rolling in The Deep star Adele then fuelled a war-of-words with Damon by admitting she regretted working with him.
“It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments,” Adele told Rolling Stone magazine. “And the saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him.
“None of it was right. None of it suited my record. He said I was insecure, when I’m the least-insecure person I know. I was asking his opinion about my fears, about coming back with a child involved – because he has a child – and then he calls me insecure?”
The feud story became headline news, but Damon is adamant the fallout was blown out of proportion.
“I was Number Five (trend) on Twitter… I mean, how pathetic is that?” he tells Time Out magazine. “It’s not even true: it’s amazing how people will run with stuff that has no credence whatsoever and turn it into something and then watch the reaction… People were not kind, it was… enlightening… I’m used to it. Listen, I’m here because I love writing music and it’s a privilege.”
