Dan Harmon Returns as ‘Community’ Show Runner!

While it is common practice for the status quo to take hold in your average sitcom following a firing, a breakup, or any other massive change, we usually don’t see people taking back to their old states of being in real life after such calamities. But just as Community has prided itself in embodying the essence of the situation comedy, the reality surrounding it seems to be doing the same: The Hollywood Reporter reports that Dan Harmon, the creator and show runner of the cult phenomenon NBC series who was ousted from his spot in production after the conclusion of Season 3, is now officially returning to head production for the upcoming fifth season. Writer Chris McKenna, who left along with Harmon, is also expected to return.

Harmon’s relationship with the network was more than a bit contentious, as was his rapport with star Chevy Chase, who has officially quit the series. But the brilliant creative’s absence was felt, and hard, during Season 4, when fans lashed out against lackluster writing by replacement show runners Moses Port and Dan Guarascio. We’re not sure if Harmon can completely undo the damage that his interim usurpers made to the Community canon (unless he completely erases this past season), but we are confident that Season 5 will at least recharge our passions with that old Greendale wit and charm. And so, we offer a celebratory “Huzzah!” (Is that right?)
