Desert Mummies of Peru | 2000
Documentary special that follows the excavation of three burial sites belonging to the Chiribayan people of Peru. The sitting mummies of the Chiribaya people, who thrived from 950 to 1350 AD, just before the rise of the Inca, have never been filmed for television. Dr. Sonia Guillen and her team of archaeologists remove burial shrouds and use endoscopic cameras to record and investigate the mummies. Excavators strive to preserve the mummies along with artifacts they uncover including pottery, gold jewelry, feathered caps and patterned textiles.
