Dido and Aeneas | 1996
Telecast of Henry Purcell's opera, "Dido and Aeneas." Retells the story of Dido, the proud queen of Carthage, and her wandering lover, who is cast upon the shores of Carthage after the fall of Troy. Their love is short-lived, as evil spirits invoke the gods and plan the lovers' destruction. A spirit persuades Aeneas to continue his journey (he is destined to eventually found the city of Rome.) Filmed at Hampton Court, the Tudor palace on the Thames built in the early 16th century. The production marks the 300th anniversary of Purcell's death.
