Synopsis

Telefilm based on the classic Dostoyevsky novel, "Crime and Punishment." Set in 19th century Russia, a young student named Rodya Raskolnikov believes that extraordinary people, merely because of their greatness, have the right to commit any crime and remain unpunished if it is for the betterment of the country. Because he perceives himself to be in this league, Raskolnikov murders a corrupt pawnbroker and her innocent sister in order to prove his theory. Ultimately, his feelings of guilt overpower him and the forces of justice close in on him.
