Sherri Shepherd and Joy Behar Discuss Their Weddings On ‘The View’

This morning the 15th season of The View premiered, and while lots of important events took place over the summer that the ladies will eventually have to discuss from their various viewpoints, they all took a back seat to the news that over the break, Sherri Shepherd AND Joy Behar got married. After the audience welcomed their hosts back to the show, Sherri flashed her wedding rings on her left hand and then crept out from behind the table so she could show everyone the dress and custom made shoes she wore on her big day. “I’m going to make this marriage work if it kills me,” she said as she proudly showed off the garb she wore to her August 13th wedding. Luckily for Sherri enthusiasts, the wedding was filmed for a special that will air on the Style Network on September 13th, and the new bride gave us a sneak preview of it when she told the story of how the microphone pack fell down the back of her dress, but she didn’t want anyone to help her retrieve it because she wasn’t wearing any underwear. Sherri said, “One of my bridesmaids, I think it was Niecy Nash, said, ‘Don’t wear any underwear.’ They knew me and Sal had been celibate for 11 months so [she wanted me to do] anything [I could] do to get him turned back on.” Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who was another one of Sherri’s bridesmaids, interjected and talked about how hard Sherri made it for someone to help her attach the microphone pack back to her dress, saying, “Like a person drowning who won’t let you help them, I was ready to slap you.”

Then our attention turned to Joy’s August 12th nuptials, and everyone laughed as the comedian listed off 10 reasons why she finally decided to marry her partner of 29 years, Steve Janowitz. But things quickly got serious when she explained how the legalization of gay marriage helped her realize that she wanted to tie the knot. Of how gay married couples can now receive the same benefits as straight married (like hospital visitation, inheritance and tax breaks), Joy said, “It did have an influence on me – it brought to my consciousness why gays needed to get married. And I thought it was a good reason for me to get married. And so did Steve, so we did it.” Congrats to everyone — but those hot topics aren’t going to talk about themselves!
