Fidel Castro suffers stroke

On Friday morning (19Oct12), reports emerged online suggesting the communist revolutionary had suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and was struggling to communicate.

Dr. Jose Marquina, who is not treating the politician but claimed to have knowledge of his condition, told Spanish publication El Nuevo Herald, “He suffered an embolic stroke and recognises absolutely no one.”

But Castro’s son Alex has now spoken out to set the record straight, telling Cuban state media, “The comandante is well, following his daily routine, reading, exercising.”

The 86 year old has not been seen in public since March (12) when Pope Benedict XVI visited Cuba. He has been dogged by rumours of poor health every since.
